Heel pain got you down? #heelpain #zimmermannpodiatry

Does heel pain hinder your lifestyle?

It is hard to live a normal, active life when you're left limping around like you have a knife stuck in the bottom of your heel. If your first few steps out of bed in the morning or after sitting for a while are pure pain, you need to do something about it.

Plantar fascitis is the fancy medical term that encompasses most, but not all forms of heel pain. Plantar fascitis is the most common foot related pain that we see at Zimmermann Podiatry. Plantar fascitis effects most every type of person, age group or activity level.

Luckily, there are several forms of non-surgical treatment that can alleviate your pain and get you back on the right path to feeling better and walking without wincing in pain. Some easy things to do are to learn some stretching exercises, avoid going barefoot, icing the area, and getting into some high quality walking or running shoes. If your heel hurts it is not time to scrimp on how much you spend on your shoes.

If your heel pain still sticks around, its time to go see the podiatrist. You will likely need an xray along with a thorough evaluation. Sometimes a cortisone shot is needed (does not hurt as bad as you think!), and maybe some inserts for your shoes, physical therapy, and prescription medication.

Come on in to see Dr. Zimmermann if your dogs are barking and get back to walking without pain!
